PUMPKIN
HURLING
@
BUSTIFIRE
The fastest growing
sport of the nation came to Busti in 1994. The second sanctioned
Pumpkin Hurling event in the country. The rest has been history
and in 1998 a crowd of more than 5,000 excited fans witnessed
this event. Machines of a pneumatic and a mechanical nature throw
these unsuspecting pumpkins to distances of up to 3/4 of a mile.
This exciting crowd-pleasing event coupled with spectacular
opening ceremony
and fly over make a well-rounded day of non-stop action. The
craft booths and carnival-like cuisine served by the Busti Fire
Department Ladies Auxiliary provide an experience the crowds
appreciate. The cooperative venture of the Busti Fire Department
and local organizations has been extremely successful. We at the
department look forward to expanding this program into the next
millennium.

Chet Ellis and Tom Peterson blasted
this cannon called "Common Sense"
to take the Chief James Boswell Pumpkin
Hurling Trophy in 1997 and '98.
Kindest regards,
John Siggins II
